Poodle Doodles

A new trend has emerged. That of turning your beloved canine friend into a mobile work of ‘art’. I use the term ‘art’ loosely here, of course.

Essentially people are cutting and dying the hair of poodles and other unfortunately fluffy dogs, to resemble other creatures, such as Panda’s, Pirates and Fairy’s. It is as crazy as it sounds and the results are just as mind numbingly hilarious.

Wordy Wednesday: ‘Vocab101’

Vocab101 Emblem For those who do not know, Vocab101 is my daily attempt to find a new and interesting word which could potentially be used in everyday circumstances. The words I find range from the obscene, to the unbelievably true (which are hyperlinked in blue) and, of course, the colloquial. Thus, Hans’ Milieu now has a ‘Wordy Wednesday’.

Each Hans’ Milieu edition of Vocab101 will take place on Wordy Wednesdays and will contain all the words I have tweeted over the course of one week from the previous Vocab101 session (7 days, 7 new words). Furthermore, each Hans’ Milieu edition of Vocab101 will contain additional new words which did not make the original cut, but are just as tantalising/disturbing!

  • Biphonal – Using more than one phone at the same time. For example: Talking on one mobile phone while texting on another.

  • Drailing – Sending out e-mails, most often to ex-partners, whilst drunk.

  • Imonogamy – The practice of only using instant messaging as a form of communication. Yes, MXit counts.

  • Holidrawl – Adapting one’s speech patterns to match the local accent while on holiday.

  • Debauchelor – A groom whose bachelor party is particularly raunchy.

  • Cataglottism – A very rare word, used to describe kissing using one’s tongue.

  • Eccedentesiast – Someone who fakes a smile, such as a television presenter.

Vocab101-isms which missed the cut:

  • KrukolibidinousThe act of staring at someone’s crotch.

  • Lalochezia – Using foul or abusive language to relieve stress or to ease pain.

I do hope that you enjoyed this edition of Vocab101 and that you will return for some more Vocab101-isms in the near future.

“Pikachu… use FLASH”!

(As seen on Kotaku, via MaximumPC)Gloves?! Pikachu doesn't wear gloves!

“Wild Pikachu appeared!
Go Metapod!
Metapod used Harden!
Enemy Pikachu used Flash!
Metapod used String Shot!”

(Comment by Kotaku User: DJC89, 29 July 2009)

As a self-confessed Pokémon fan, I could not resist sharing the above photograph with all of you.

I may not be into costume role-playing (cosplay) but if Miss Pikachu is anything to go by, or her friends for that matter, I may very well have to re-evaluate my stance on the subject… *loses focus and drools slightly onto the keyboard*

For those who do not know; Cosplay, short for "costume role-play", is a type of performance art whereby participants outfit themselves with an elaborate costume of some kind, which is often adorned with theme specific accessories, that represents a specific character, idea or theme.

Cosplay participants ("cosplayers") form a subculture centered around wearing their costumes and re-enacting scenes or inventing likely behaviour inspired by their chosen sources. In some circles, the term cosplay has been broadened to include simply wearing a costume, without special consideration given to enacting characters in a performance context.

So you see, having nerdish tendencies is not all bad. Admittedly a little strange, but not as bad as the stereotype would have you believe.

Wishroom keeps your moobs in check!

Jack Nicholson with his 'moobs' on display.Moob (n):

The word given to describe large fatty male pectorals, which resemble female breasts. Thus: Man + Boob = Moob.

Do you have moobs? Are your moobs saggy? Do you feel like your moobs are keeping you down?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you are in luck! The Japanese company Wishroom has heard your lethargic call and has developed a solution:

Brassiers for men!

That is correct gents! Wishroom has created bras for men. The strangest part? The bras are selling out faster than Brangelina can adopt children.

Men's Premium Brasserie - Various ColoursMail order company Wishroom started selling the unusual underwear last year [2008].

Unsure of its reception, at first they only produced 160 bras at the start. These sold out immediately, prompting the company to order 5 000 more.

Wishroom president Masayuki Tsuchiya says demand from customers prompted the company to create the male bra.

Men's Premium Brasserie - Leopard PrintIn Japan, men who wear bras are known as “Bra-o”, which means “Bra men”.

Wishroom’s bras are available in a choice of white, pink and black and retail for around £20 [about R260]. They are all A cup size with chest size ranging from 32ins to 38ins.

According to Mr Tsuchiya, office workers in their 30s and 40s are Wishroom’s main clients.

Men's Premium Brasserie - Floral“Japanese salary men have a lot of stress, and the bras seem to relieve that,” he said.

Another, more surprising, market has proven to be in their 50s and 60s who, it turns out, also partial to the calming effects of a bra.

“They were the generation we had been told were manly – they led Japan in the post-war period,” explains Tsuchiya, speculating they may now be reacting against this stereotype (

Okay, how is a bra supposed to relieve stress? The damn things are near impossible to take off, especially in the heat of the moment. Unlike shirts, bras cannot simply be ripped off. If anything, bras are a cause of stress for men, especially during foreplay.

Apart from taking bra’s off, have you seen how much of a mission they are to put on? Why on earth would a non cross dressing inclined man want to wear a bra? Not wearing a bra, or any underwear for that matter, is one of the perks of being a man, right up there with getting away with bed hair and being able to urinate while standing upright.

Boob Milk Bottles[48]

I have always known that the Japanese are somewhat more eccentric than most, mainly because they appear to have an incomplete understanding of Western culture. Anyone remember the English swear words on shirts a few years back? [Check out for more Asian eccentricities]

However, there is usually always some kind of method to the Japanese madness ingenuity. Take the boob shaped milk bottle dispensers, for example…

Absolute. Genius!

Breaking News: Pokémon Exist!

Hey Milieu Pals,

Have you heard the news? In a recent discovery made by a Japanese journalist,a secret lab was found that has begun genetically engineering animals to resemble the cute critters of the world renowned Pokémon brand. Apparently they wanted to create a Pokémon Zoo to help increase Japan’s dwindling tourist economy. had the following to report:

"In a startling discovery, made by the infamous Japanese reporter Ms. Yoshiko Sakurai, the evidence of an advanced experimental gene splicing and cloning facility was found in Saijo within the Chugoku Sanchi district of Hiroshima. The facility was said to be experimenting with animal DNA, through a new genetic process that incorporates the peptide bonding of nucleic acids; and the dismantling of RNA chains through the use of a revolutionary restriction endonuclease called Moniseraze. Through this new process, the Japanese scientists were able to splice genes from different animals to create new biological organisms. Although this is a tremendous breakthrough for modern medicine, it is in direct violation of the Genetics Act of 2001. The organisms created offer striking resemblances to that of the famous Japanese Pocket Monster concept, Pokémon".

I hope you all enjoyed that piece of well written and semi-believable balderdash… LOL ! I’m sure most of you figured out that it was a false news story that I made up. If not… then I hope you have/had a good laugh at it !

So, do any of you Milieu Pals out there like Pokémon? For those who know me quite well, you’ll know that I’m really into collecting Pokémon cards, among other kinds of card collections. I have been a Pokémon fan for… gees… its been so long that I can’t even remember when it started in South Africa . Regardless I really enjoy playing the card game and the suspense of not knowing what cards you will be receiving when you buy a new ‘booster’ pack of cards.

Some of you, who are reading this, are probably thinking the following… "Pokémon, did he say Pokémon… HA HA HA HA"; "That’s for kids man, you’re twenty already"; and so on and so forth. I have only the following to say to those with such a narrow minded perception of individualism: when I started collecting the first series of Pokémon cards I was fortunate enough to obtain 2 Charizard Holographic cards. Both of those cards (in near mint condition) now have a collectors retail value of $160 dollars each, which equates to R1 040 (at time of currency conversion) and that’s only for a single card. My collection is now regarded as an investment, not just a child’s game .

Okay, the point of this entry was to actually discuss something that I found with regards to Pokémon. I can’t remember how I stumbled onto the site; I think it was from clicking on a link in the forums. Basically I was redirected to a site, called, and onto a page for a Photoshop competition revolving around Pokémon. The aim was to create Life Like Pokémon.

I was amazed at what I had seen! Some of the people who submitted entries are really talented. So, I’ve decided to share the photographs with all of you. You may find the photographs of the ‘Real Pokémon’, with their names, in the album entitled: Breaking News: Pokémon Exist! For the website I got the photographs from, please click here.

I should actually be studying now… considering the fact that I have two theory intensive exams for next week Wednesday; Psychology: Organisational Behaviour and Integrated Marketing Communications.

Wish me luck!

*Update* – I found this fan made video on Youtube which has even more pictures of ‘real’ Pokémon.
